Organ Donation

  • NTU has played a leading role in the reform of Organ and Tissue Procurement in Australia. This has resulted in the construction of the National Organ and Tissue Donation Authority and hence 

First Point of care clinic database

NTU has developed Transnet: the first point of clinical care web based database in transplantation in AU. It has enabled NTU audit, improved clinical efficacy and clinical and basic research. It is now incorporated into the Single Patient Digital Record throughout John Hunter Hospital

Novel Immunosuppressant

  • HTRF has developed and patented a new class of transplant immunosuppressants called heparanase inhibitors. These hold promise of reducing the side effects of the current drugs that almost all transplant recipients  have to take permanently.

Novel technique of Transplantation

NTU pioneered the transplantation of kidneys after cancer excision establishing efficacy and safety in this procedure

Cancer after Transplant

  • HTRF has  defined another risk factor for cancer development in transplant recipients: namely, cytotoxic agents that are used to treat some primary renal diseases.
